Handdyed Handknit Gay Rainbow Wool Gate-Closure Retucule with Gay Rainbow Lining

Item Number 16

This is a type of reticule bag originally made in the 1860's. The closure at top is a reproduction of the 1860's gate opening. Closed the opening measures a mere two inches in diameter, but then, as you can see to the right, it opens to a large twenty inch circumference.

The  handspun handknit brown wool came from a natural colored Corriedale fleece. The handdyed, handspun and handknit gay rainbow colored wool came from a white Corriedale fleece which I dyed in the colors of the gay rainbow flag.

It is what I call a subtle gay rainbow bag accessory. The colors of the gay Rainbow flag show in small clusters through much of the bag, but at one point I handspun the yarn in long lengths of each of the separae colors. That creates a small gay rainbow circling the bag.

The lining was sewn from reproduction 1930's fabric in the colors of the gay rainbow flag, yet very restrained in hue.

10" long with a 50" strap...the strap is long enough so you may wear the bag over your neck.  If you fold the strap as in the photograph, you can carry the bag in your hand.

This is the only one left from a series of three.  First to ask for it gets it.

The bag from the photo on the left opened up. The gate closure opens to a circumference of 20 inches. I have lined the bag with reproduction 1930's fabric, in subtle shades of the gay rainbow flag. This is a sturdy, lined bag with a unique closure. It is deep enough to carry all you need for a day at the office or a night on the town. And it definitely qualifies as a conversation piece.
